Junior Brooke Buller is a finalist in the Photographer’s Forum College and High School Photography Contest.

Junior Brooke Buller just snapped her way to the finals of the Photographer’s Forum College and High School Photography Contest.

The competition had over 12,000 entrants from all over the world.

The prize for first place was a $2000 grant, and a new Sigma camera lens, which costs over $800.

Buller said that she didn’t expect the competition to be so large.

“I actually didn’t think it would be so big,” Buller said. “I found the little flyer in Gaylord and I thought it would be fun.”

Buller said her photograph, an image of a decrepit water tower standing tall over a shack in a South Dakota ghost town, was taken on a family road trip.

“It is of a water tower in Ardmore, South Dakota” Buller said. “I took it my freshman year around the time my mom and brother took a trip around Nebraska and South Dakota for spring break.”

Buller said the picture doesn’t tell the full story, as even though the weather looks bleak in the picture, it was actually a beautiful day for photography.

Along with photography, Buller also is a general manager at KDNE, works in the Theater department, and sings with the collegiate chorale.

Senior Kellan Willet works with Buller every day, and is one of the few people Buller told she was entering the competition.

Willet said that Buller is devoted and excellent, and that he thinks her commitment to hard work shows in her photos.

“She is absolutely excellent,” Willet said. “She just puts her time into it and she loves to do it.”

Willet said the picture is the kind of photograph he would blow up and frame on his wall.

“It’s honestly beautiful,” Willet said.

Buller said she does photography for pleasure.

“It is really fun to do, so I don’t really think of it as any kind of work,” Buller said

Buller’s photo will be featured in the November 2018 edition of Photographer’s Forum magazine, and a hardcover book, according to the contest website.

“All contest finalists, and the top eight percent of entries will be published in the hardcover book, ‘Best of Photography 2018’,” the website said.

The book will be published at the end of this year.
