On Sunday, Doane students and the Crete and surrounding communities came together for a run/walk fundraiser for Lauren Celesky.
Celesky was diagnosed with stage 4 cervical cancer in September.
Following her diagnosis, the Doane community has shown a great amount of support to the Celesky family.
This event was held to raise money for her medical costs and living expenses.
Alpha Pi Epsilon and Sigma Phi Theta fraternities volunteered; as well as the Doane Owl editorial staff who baked items to be served at the event and even helped plan the event.
Lauren and her immediate family were able to attend the event and she spoke to the 67 participants before the run/walk began.
Participants had the option of running the entire 5k or walking one mile.
At the end of the event the donations were counted and over $2000 were raised to help Lauren with her financial needs during this time.
“This event was a huge success and I cannot express how proud I am of the Doane and surrounding communities for their support,” Steps Forward coordinator Caitlyn Nelson said.
