Doane filled two interim positions for department heads and roles on the president’s leadership team left open by resignations, according to an email dated May 23 from Doane University President Dr. Jacque Carter.

Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students Carrie Lovelace Petr and Vice President for Enrollment and University Communications Joel Weyand both resigned earlier this year.

Kyle McMurray, director of Admission Office, will fill the interim position for Enrollment and Abby Vollmer, assistant dean of Student Affairs/Director of Hansen Leadership Program, will fill the interim position for Student Affairs.

“This will probably be the only time in Doane history that these two key departments will have new leadership at the same time,” Carter said.

Both Vollmer and McMurray said they are excited and ready for the challenge that these interim positions will entail.

“I am excited for the opportunity to support my division and the university during this time,” Vollmer said.

McMurray said that while he is holding the position, the admissions staff is helping with the duties to make this transition as successful as it can be.

“Joel was a really good leader in our office, and he was a really good mentor to me individually, so I know he has done a great job of preparing me, and all of us, for a situation like this, so we are excited, but at the same time we all know we have a lot of work to do,” McMurray said.

Both Vollmer and McMurray are now holding the standing positions on the president’s leadership team.

As far as filling these positions permanently, Carter said he is taking into considerations many things and will seek feedback from members of the president’s leadership team, faculty, staff, students and trustees.

“We are taking the time to be informed in order to make decisions that will give Doane the best opportunity to succeed now and in the future,” Carter said.
