Men’s golf impressed on Monday and Tuesday at the Siouxland Invitational. Monday was played at The Ridge Golf Club in Sioux Center, Iowa, where the men finished third out of 14 teams. The following day was played at Landsmeer Golf Club in Orange City, Iowa, where the men improved to second out of 14 teams.
Sophomore Conor Schubring led the team after placing fifth overall, while senior Roger Sack placed seventh overall. Micah Ramirez, Blake Andersen, and J.R. Kanemura rounded out the Tiger’s top five finishers.
Junior Hayden Fry had only positive things to say about his team and the heights they could reach this year.
“At both the Blue River Classic and the Siouxland Invite, I think the team showed that Doane is a real contender for the GPAC, the team this year is as strong as ever,” said Fry. “I see our team competing and staying near the top of the leaderboard in every tournament.”
Fry also mentioned the atmosphere of the team, which is no doubt a factor in the team’s strong start this year.
“It’s an awesome group of guys, we’re able to keep practices fun while still putting in the work to improve our games,” said Fry.
Seeing how successful they have been so far in the season, they will certainly be a Doane team to keep an eye on. They just might have what it takes to win the GPAC title this year.
The men’s golf team will be traveling to Omaha to take part in the Midland Invite on September 17th.
