Shotgun team blasts competition away at Midland Iceout meet

Doane Shooting Sports team opened their season on Sept. 21 and 22, with the Midland Iceout Shoot held at Lincoln Trap and Skeet Club in Lincoln.

The Tigers won the American trap discipline portion of the competition which was one of five disciplines they competed in.

The team took home third place overall with a score of 488.

The Tigers were third in American skeet with a score of 483, and fourth in sporting clays, super sporting and doubles skeet.

Placing for the Tigers were senior Katie Peterson, who was the top female finisher and tied for fifth with senior Mason Buzzard. Both shot a 375 for the weekend.

Peterson won the high lady trap with 99 targets broken.

Sophomore Jack Olsen placed 16th with a score of 336.

Junior JJ Iltz placed 24th and broke 359 targets. He won the high male trap with 99 targets broken.

Senior Morgan Psyk tied for fourth among female competitors and placed 31st overall with 354 targets.

Following in ranks, sophomore Trevin Alberts placed 39th, Elizabeth Krejci placed 46th and Jared Crouse placed 48th.

The team will be traveling to North Platte for the Prairie Classic Conference Shoot on Sept. 27-29.
