Along with Doane volleyball team win against College of Saint Mary’s on Oct. 12, sophomore middle blocker Genna Ryan-Piasecki also celebrated setting the school record for most blocks in a four-set match for Doane.
Piasecki had 11 out of the Tigers’ 14 total blocks of the game and eight out of 58 kills.
“She came in her freshman year and was put right into the starting lineup,” senior team captain Allison Kuenle said. “She is a huge asset to the team.”
The Tigers and Flames played a close match, with scores of 25-19, 22-25, 25-19 and 25-15.
“Volleyball is a game of momentum changes and usually the team with the most momentum will win the match. We are very lucky to have someone like Genna who is able to continually celebrate all the little things to help our side keep the momentum going,” Kuenle said.
Piasecki gives credit for this accomplishment to Coach Gwen Egbert.
“I have only been her (Egbert) player for a year and a half and already she’s made me a better player than I thought I could ever be,” Piasecki said.
The Tigers are now 4-5 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference and 13-9 on the season.
Doane will host Hastings College at Haddix for their next game on Wednesday, Oct. 16, at 7:30 p.m.
