With Spring Break coming up in about a month, many students are trying to figure out what they are going to do. Whether it’s going home, staying on campus or traveling, Doane is offering an Alternative Spring Break for residential and non-residential students.

This year, Assistant Director of Leadership and Service Eric Jones and Site Coordinator Student Leader sophomore Allie Janssen are planning on driving these students to Denver, Colorado to do a variety of activities.

“We will be spending a good amount of our time giving back to the community and then doing fun things whether it is going to explore the town, going bowling, sightseeing or visiting a museum or aquarium. It all depends on what we have planned for the day,” Jones said.

Although these students are going to be doing some fun activities during this trip, the trip is primarily focused on social issues and they will spend time actively learning about that topic by engaging in volunteer service with non-profit organizations. Yet none of these activities would be available if it was not for the help and support of people here on campus.

“We want to thank the Board of Trustee, Amy Vertin, for showing her support financially to Alternative Breaks and Student Congress for providing additional funding, so students are able to experience trips like this,” Jones said. “And lastly, to the Office of Career, Leadership and Service for putting on these trips through Doane Serves.”

Students interested in attending Alternative Spring Break will need to apply. The application opened on Feb. 5 and will close on Feb. 16. Students with any questions, feel free to contact Eric Jones at eric.jones@doane.edu for more information.
