Foodie series hosts waffle night

On the last Tuesday of every month, the Foodie Series makes something different for every single event; this time, they did Waffle Night. Assistant Director of Student Engagement Spencer Munson said that the members of the Student Programming Board (SPB) invited Fresh Ideas Chef Shack Butters to a meeting to collaborate on different food options. “I don’t think many folks realized you can go with both sweet or savory when making waffles,” Munson said. “There are also infinite topping options, so it makes it fun for the students to individualize.”

During these events SPB gives out items to the students who attend. Since they were making waffles, they decided to give away waffle makers.

“They got to the first few people in line, or we scanned IDs and randomly selected winners throughout the event,” Munson said. With these Foodie Series, members of SPB have thought about making these events more like competition between students.

“Sometimes we have ideas on how to make the assembly lines more efficient, but for the most part it depends on what folks like,” Munson said. “Some people have a hard time trying new things, so I would just encourage students to take risks when trying new foods and developing their pallets.”

Munson has also talked about how he would like to see more international cuisines like Latin, Caribbean, Thai and Mediterranean. Along with that he would also like to try some baked goods as well.

Over the upcoming months, SPB has put together some ideas of what they would like to do for the remainder of the year. For February’s Foodie Series, they are thinking candied fruits, March will be sushi and for April it will potentially be DIY ice cream.
