The month of March brings the first day of spring, St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, spring break and so much more. It also brings honor to Women’s History and awareness to women’s rights worldwide with International Women’s Day. International Women’s Day is held on March 8.

International Women’s Day is a day raising awareness for women’s struggles and gender disparities. It honors women’s history to fight for rights and to continue to fight for equality.

Doane is celebrating International Women’s Day with an International Women’s Day Tea Time event. This event will be held March 8 during the lunch period from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in East/ West Dining Room in Perry Campus Center.

This event is co hosted by the Division of Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) and Campus Advocacy, Prevention and Education (CAPE) Project. The goal of this event is to create open dialogue and conversation about women’s experiences in the workplace. It also encourages young women in the Doane community who are working toward professional careers.

The hope is to increase awareness about the challenges that women face in the workplace and empower the next generation of women into careers. Those hosting the event also hope to alleviate the isolation felt by women in the workplace.

Anyone and everyone is encouraged to attend and take part in the conversation.

The event will also offer beverages, sandwiches and side dishes while fostering conversation.

“This event promises to be an enlightening experience, and we encourage you to join us,” an email sent out to the Doane community by the CAPE Project stated.

Any questions can be directed to CAPE Director Jaden Hilkemann at jaden.hilkemann@doane.edu.
