Doane continued its Foodie Series on Feb. 27 with students being able to make their own candied fruit dessert. Students picked their own fruit and toppings before they dipped it into liquid sugar, leaving a desert for them to enjoy.
“Overall, this event was a bit slower than our past foodie series. We only had about 30 students come. However, those that did come had a good time making their candied fruits, and multiple came back for seconds. I personally thought the candied fruit was really good, and it was my first time trying it,” sophomore and Co-Special Events Committee Chair for the Student Programming Board (SPB) Emma Jenkins said about the event.
Students present had a choice of grapes, strawberries and oranges as their options for the candied fruit. Jenkins sees these events as something beneficial to a student’s overall palate.
“It is important to have events like this because it helps give the students something to do, but also something to learn. I do think it helps to improve students’ food palates,” Jenkins said.
In terms of student participation, Jenkins wants students to attend because they can not only give feedback to what they like but so they can also push their boundaries in terms of finding new foods they have not had yet.
“Even if the food seems pretty simple, the staff does a really good job of coming up with other things to add to it, to make it even better. I personally have tried some things at our foodie series that have expanded my palate,” Jenkins said. Jenkins is looking forward to the next Foodies Series event, which will have students making their own sushi rolls. This event has not been posted yet.
