Myles Jasnowski performs a variety of songs in Lakeside, including some of his own.

Doane had a live act last week on March 19, in Lakeside. The artist was Myles Jasnowski, a Soul/R&B guitarist and singer.

Jasnowski’s style of music allows for a lot of creative freedom, as he sets a loop using a guitar that he uses as a backing for his guitar. With this method, he achieves the effects of a full band while also being a single person.

Jasnowski is also a local act, hailing from Aurora, NE. His performance is also a part of the Student Programming Board’s (SPB) Coffee Shop Series, where they hire musicians to do a set at Doane University. Jasnowski is one of the two people who have performed at Doane University, the first one being Emmitt James, a Hip Hop-Jazz Rapper.

Jasnowski performed for two hours, and in his set, he opened with Marvin Gaye, then followed this with Otis Reddings’ “The Dock of The Bay,” later, he played The Beatles’ classic “Come Together.” Later on, he played music of his own production, specifically his track “Where I Wanna Be,” and some unreleased work. One of his finishing songs was Grover Washington Jr.’s “Just the Two of Us.”

Jasnowski currently lives in Lincoln but has experienced Doane before.

“I have been here several times to play… I saw somebody graduate here… I know Spencer Munson [Assistant Director of Campus Engagement], and we are very alike in terms of music taste,” Jasnowski said. Doane’s SPB does events like this lakeside series to promote campus and student engagement, pushing for students to get a break from studying and get to have the ‘college experience’, while also providing live Soul/ R&B music for students to enjoy.
