Leadership applications for various on campus leadership positions opened up at the end of January and closed March 1. Since the applications closed, advisors of these leadership organizations have been working hard to hold interviews and offer them positions.
In the past couple of weeks, applicants have been informed if they got the position or positions that they applied for. Some of these positions include Community Advisors (CAs); Orientation Leaders (OLs); Campus Advocacy, Prevention and Education (CAPE) Project Peer Educators, Student Ambassadors and more.
Freshman Ella Ningen was informed that she had been accepted as a CAPE Peer Educator.
“This was the student leadership position that I wanted the most and was very excited when I found out I got it,” Ningen said. “This is something that I feel strongly and passionately about and I am excited to start educating and spreading awareness across campus.”
Freshman Makenna Armstrong echoes that excitement as she was accepted as a CA for the upcoming year. Yet in addition to the excitement, Armstrong is nervous because of the importance of CAs as a role on campus.
Despite the nerves, Armstrong is excited to “make an impact” on campus. She applied to the role of CA because she wanted to help others like herself on campus.
These different positions on campus help to build leaders on campus and foster new skills in the students who take on the positions.
“I am most looking forward to my voice being heard and spreading awareness through something as important as CAPE,” Ningen said.
For various new student leaders on campus, a leadership workshop will be held on April 21. In addition to the leadership workshop, student leadership organizations are hosting first meetings with the new leaders or planning various training sessions as well.
