The Men’s and Women’s Tennis teams took on a slew of opponents, facing four different teams in seven different matches. Both the Men’s and Women’s teams would walk away from the challenging week with one win apiece.
Both teams started their week off at home against Concordia University. The Women’s team struggled in doubles action, dropping all three matches. Only freshman Maria Purizaca Soto would earn the win with scores of 6-0, 6-0. As a team, the Tigers fell 1-6.
The Men’s team fared better against the Bulldogs. Senior Federico Infante and sophomore Diego Infante won a close battle at 6-4 and senior Esteban Gutierrez and junior Jose Purizaca won 6-2.
Both Gutierrez and Purizaca went on to win their solo matches with identical scores of 6-2, 7-5. Diego Infante 6-4, 6-3 while freshman Elliot Dassel won 6-4, 6-0. Despite losing his first match, freshman Andre Hartman came back to win 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 and helped the team to win 6-1.
The Women’s team then traveled to Omaha, Nebraska to take on College of Saint Mary. The Flames kept Doane from taking any of the doubles points, aiding in their 5-2 win over the Tigers. Purizaca Soto earned her team points in her solo match win of 6-4, 6-3. The only other victory that day came from senior Emily Guiton with scores of 6-2, 6-3.
Both teams were then facing Northwestern College on the road. While the Men’s team fell 3-4, the Women’s team picked up their first victory of the week 4-3. One victory of 6-3 was earned in doubles matches by Purizaca Soto and sophomore Grace Schroller.
Purizaca Soto had another clean sweep of 6-0, 6-0 in singles play. Junior Cierra Schwartzkopf and Guiton both forced extra sets in their singles games, Schwartzkopf winning 3-6, 6-2, 7-5 and Guiton winning 5-7, 6-3, 6-2. Finally, freshman Isabella Castillero won her match 6-3, 7-6.
To finish out their busy week, both teams were in Sioux City, Iowa to play Morningside University. The Mustangs would dominate each team from start to finish, defeating the Men with a score of 7-0 and defeating the Women with a score of 6-1.
The Men’s and Women’s Tennis teams will be in Hastings, Nebraska on April 18 to take on Hastings College before heading to Fremont, Nebraska for a match up against Midland University on April 20.
