Baseball sweeps their competition

The Baseball team played back-to-back doubleheaders against Dakota Wesleyan University this past weekend. It was a clean sweep for Doane, who took home four victories over the weekend.

The Tigers started game one with a single run in the second inning that was immediately answered for by DWU in the same inning with two runs of their own. Dakota Wesleyan followed it up with two more runs in the third inning to jump out to an early 4-1 lead.

DWU would not score another run while Doane began to rally. With one run in the sixth inning and two in the seventh, the Tigers tied things up 4-4. This remained the score through the end of the game, which forced an extra inning. In the tenth inning, Doane added two runs to come from behind and win game one 6-4.

Doane was much more dominant in the second game against DWU. The Tigers picked up two runs in the second inning and three more in the third inning. Doane’s defense kept Dakota Wesleyan scoreless for the whole game, while the Tiger offense collected four more runs to win the second game 9-0.

The following day, Doane faced off against Dakota Wesleyan University for their second double header of the weekend. The first game of day two got off to a much slower start than the games the previous day.

DWU was first on the board with a single run in the first inning. After a few scoreless innings, Doane added two runs of their own in the fourth inning and held strong until the end of the game to win 2-1.

In the final game of this four game series, Doane got on the board quickly with one run in the first inning. DWU followed it up with two runs in the second inning to take the lead. In the fourth inning, the Tigers answered with two runs of their own, but DWU acquired one more run to tie everything up 3-3.

The Tigers regained the lead with a run in the sixth inning and padded their lead with two more runs in the seventh inning. Despite another run added in the seventh by Dakota Wesleyan, Doane held fast to the lead and won 6-4.
