Doane seniors are graduating in a little under a month from now. Although their time taking classes for Doane’s Undergraduate program is nearing a close, it is potentially not their last time getting help from Doane.
Doane’s Career, Leadership and Services (CLS) Office offers alumni help in transitioning into life outside of Doane. One of these people who can help in this transition is Associate Director of Career Development Sarah Begay.
“Having an updated resume, having your resume reviewed by our office, completing a mock interview if interviews are stressful or knowing how to properly prepare for an interview are all good ideas,” Begay said. “Spend time regularly searching for opportunities that fit your interests and strengths, keep track of what and or when you apply for so you can follow up and keep connected with your network, like professors or past internship supervisors.”
There are also things that students should be encouraged and aware of in the face of entering the job market.
“Finding a job can take as few as a couple of days or even a few months you need to be patient and have a strategy. Remain confident and optimistic when being told ‘no’ and keep applying,” Begay said.
On the bright side, the CLS Office at Doane helps handle some of these stresses.
“Accomplishing the goal of obtaining a bachelor’s degree, students should feel proud. The work, effort and sacrifice put into obtaining a degree should be recognized,” Begay said. “Also appreciate the support of those that helped this become a reality because your family and friends are proud of you.”
