Doane’s Student Programming Board (SPB) is hosting another event in its Coffee Shop Series today from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The artist this time is Jack Rodenburg, a multi-instrumentalist who plays in a “Piano-Bar” style.
Jack is a Ph.D. student at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln with a specialization in Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior (EEB). He also graduated from UNL with his undergraduate degree.
This is not Jack’s first time on the Doane Crete Campus, as he is considered a regular by upperclassmen. “This is Jack’s third time on campus. Once with ‘A Ferocious Jungle Cat’ and two times with his ‘Solo’ project. This time he will be playing the grand piano doing sing along covers with a few backup singers,” Assistant Director for Student Engagement Spencer Munson said.
At the venue, Rodenburg will be performing live music, but there will also be the Painting With a Twist series, where students can paint on a blank canvas as a stress reliever and those who are 21 and up can enjoy a glass of wine.
“[Rodenburg] is really easy to work with and has an aura of fun around him. He is so musically talented I never have to worry that the show will be anything by 100%. Last time he was a hit and I thought it would be good to bring him back,” Munson said. “His ability to float between covers and originals keeps the crowd enthralled. He’s goofy and humble but probably the smartest person in the room. I think our students will love him.”
Rodenburg will be performing within a variety of genres.
“Part Marc Rebillet, Part Ben Folks, with a dash of Bruno Mars. Come sing along,” Munson said.
