Softball bows out in GPAC Tournament

The Doane Softball team’s postseason came to a close over the weekend after falling to Midland University followed by University of Jamestown. The team ends their season after the opening round of the Great Plains Athletic Conference Tournament.

Doane opened the weekend in Sioux City, Iowa against Midland University. The Warriors struck first in the opening inning with two runs. This was followed by extraordinary defense being played by both teams which resulted in three scoreless innings.

Midland came back with another two runs in the fifth inning to put them up 4-0. The Tigers finally put themselves on the board with a run in the sixth inning, but it was immediately answered by the Warriors with three runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Despite a late push in the seventh inning from the Tigers, who added one more run in the seventh, Doane fell in their first game 2-7. After a tough first loss, the Tigers had no time to rest as they turned around and took on University of Jamestown next.

Much like the first game played, the Jimmies struck first in the opening inning with two runs. Yet again, this was followed by three scoreless innings before Doane put themselves on the board with one run in the fifth.

Jamestown and Doane each scored one run in the seventh, but that capped the scoring for the day. The Tigers fell in the second game 2-3 which ended their postseason play.

The Softball team finished their season with an 18-24 record while maintaining an 11-11 record in conference play.
