Baseball falls in championship game

Last week, the Doane Baseball team was in Seward, Nebraska to play against Concordia University in the Great Plains Athletic Conference Championship game. Unfortunately, being on the road took its toll on the Tigers and they dropped the final game to the Bulldogs.

Things got off to a slow start for both teams, as neither was able to bring in a run during the first or second inning. Scoring finally started in the third inning thanks to two runs driven in by Concordia to put them up 2-0.

The Bulldogs took the fourth inning off and the Tigers put themselves on the board in the fifth inning with one run, cutting Concordia’s lead in half. However, the Bulldogs struck back in the bottom of the fifth inning with two more runs to go up 4-1.

Neither team brought in any runs during the sixth or seventh inning as defense for both teams was impeccable. In the eighth inning, Concordia brought in another run to secure their lead 5-1. Doane fought back but was unable to score anymore, dropping the final game in the series 5-1.

The Baseball team looks for redemption in the opening round of the NAIA National Championship. The Tigers will host the University of Sciences and Arts of Oklahoma in Lincoln, Nebraska on May 13.
