Doane hosted Destress Fest on May 8. Destress Fest was a way for students to unwind before finals and have a break from their studies.
“Seeing the joy on student’s faces when they get the stress out on smashing computers or pet a mini horse, or just forget about school for a second [was my favorite part of Destress Fest],” Assistant Director of Campus Engagement Spencer Munson said.
The event lasted from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and had representatives from almost every department on showcase, handing out things to hopefully help students relax. The event was hosted by the Student Programming Board (SPB) in conjunction with other organizations on campus.
Some things that were handed out included: mental health reminders, journals, lavender, face masks, yogurt and fruit cups, Krispy Kreme donuts, tiger-paw-shaped ice packs and reusable straws, amongst other things.
There were also activities for students to partake in as well, including Cornhole, Ax Throwing and a smash space, where students could sign a waiver, pick up a baseball bat and smash a couple of printers, some Mac Desktops, keyboards and a couple of tower desktops.
Students could also sign up for facials prior to the event as a way to relax.
“Getting all set up in the parking lot and cleaning up about the smash room is kind of a pain but it was worth it right?!” Munson said, “Also everyone on staff is so busy with the Board of Trustees, graduation planning and finals. We are all just spread very thin this time of year.”
The SPB office hopes to make Destress Fest an annual event.
“[We want to make it an annual event] For sure. We have done it twice a year since Covid. It’s perfect for pre-finals prep,” Munson said.
