Last week was Senior Week, where seniors were able to participate in a variety of different activities, including the Forbidden Campus Tour, free coffee and donuts and Bar Night which offered free beer, seltzers and Raising Canes.

Senior Payton Detavernier’s favorite part of Senior Week was Bar Night, not only because of hanging out with her classmates but also because of free Raising Canes.

“At Bar Night there was more than just Canes, there were also some raffles, some people won water bottles and [senior] Sydney Bierrman won a Polaroid, film and a scrapbook, so it was pretty legit,” Detavernier said.

However for senior Dani Avalos, her favorite part was getting free coffee. She explains how she felt many emotions throughout the entire week.

“This was all very bittersweet,” Avalos said. “Doane has been a home to me since I got here. I will miss being able to wake up to such a beautiful environment and the community I found here.”

After graduation Detavernier is going to return to Doane to work in admissions and Avalos is going to be an English Teacher’s assistant in Mexico.

“I am excited for graduation and knowing that it is only a couple of days away makes me sad but happy at the same time,” Detavernier said. “The only thing I am not going to miss is having homework, but that also means I am going to have a lot of free time, which is going to feel weird for a while.”

Some final advice from both Detavernier and Avalos is to take advantage of every opportunity you get. But also know that “no” is a great word, set boundaries for yourself, take care of yourself and the community.
