This November, the Whitcomb Theatre will come alive with “Between the Lines,” an enchanting musical that blurs the boundaries between reality and fantasy. The story follows Delilah, a lonely girl who finds solace in the pages of her favorite book, only to have the lines between fact and fiction dissolve. Based on the novel by bestselling author Jodi Picoult and her daughter Samantha van Leer, “Between the Lines” is a heartwarming journey of self-discovery and imagination. Audiences can expect a show filled with humor, captivating songs and heartfelt moments. The performances will run Nov. 14-17, and tickets are available for purchase in advance through the Doane Theatre page.
“Between the Lines” is just the beginning of an exciting theatre season at Doane University. This February, the stage will be transformed for “She Kills Monsters.” This comedy-drama dives into the world of Dungeons & Dragons, where themes of grief, adventure and personal discovery intertwine. This production combines fantasy elements with humor and heart, offering something for everyone. Expect dramatic sword fights, eccentric characters and emotional depth in this geek culture-inspired play. The theatre season will wrap up in early May with “A Map of Virtue,” a play that blends romance, mystery and a dash of horror. Narrated by a bird, the play follows a couple’s eerie and unsettling journey through a web of fate, love and the unknown. “A Map of Virtue” promises a unique and thought-provoking experience for audiences. Tickets for both shows will be available online via the Doane Theatre Department webpage.
Students interested in stepping behind the curtain can audition for roles in “She Kills Monsters” and “A Map of Virtue.” Auditions for both productions will be held on Dec. 2, from 7 to 10 p.m. Callbacks for “She Kills Monsters” are scheduled for Dec. 4, from 7 to 10 p.m., while callbacks for “A Map of Virtue” will take place on Dec. 5, from 7 to 10 p.m. For more information, students can contact Reagan Gausman, Performing Arts and Recruitment Assistant.
