On Oct. 19, the Annual Homecoming game between the Tigers and the Concordia University Bulldogs took place. The Bulldogs, who were receiving votes in the NAIA poll, won 45–10 after pulling away with 21 points in the third quarter. The overall record for the Tigers in the season is (1-7).
The Tigers were unable to match the blistering pace of Concordia’s offense due to untimely penalties and an inability to run the ball on offense, the Tigers only had 19 rushing yards the entire game. Doane’s total offensive yardage at the end of the game was 344, with most of it coming from passing yards.
The fourth quarter was when Doane scored 10 points. Senior Zack Perez and Freshman Sam Hartman connected for a 51-yard touchdown on the first play of the fourth quarter. With 1:01 remaining, Junior Kelen Meyer added a 52-yard field goal to bring the Tigers to 10.
Hartman completed 30 passes for a career-high 325 yards. He gained 97 yards and a touchdown on four of his connections with Perez. A team-high seven receptions for 83 yards were made by Junior Andrew Waido. Both receivers posted career-high receiving yards. With 20 rushing yards on ten carries, Junior James Miles III led the ground game.
On the defensive side, Junior Tanner Simdorn recorded a career-high 14 tackles, six of which were solo. With four solo tackles, Freshman Zac Sundquist recorded a career-high 13 tackles. Junior Jarett Boggs recorded 12 tackles, including the team’s only sack of the game and 2.5 tackles for loss. Eleven tackles were made by sophomore Lucas Christiansen. Doane ended the game with a plus-one turnover margin after Freshman Andrew Brown recorded two interceptions. On the other hand, Concordia finished the game with 670 yards after executing 90 offensive plays.
Next up for Doane will travel to Hastings, NE to compete against Hastings College in conference play on Oct. 26 at 1:00 p.m.
