Doane staff member says goodbye

Attending and graduating from college is one thing, but working for the college is completely different. Phoenix Sadd, who is the Community Director for Frees Hall, graduated from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln in the Spring of 2024 and is now heading back to Lincoln to become a Residence Director at UNL on Nov. 22.

“I will be in charge of student staff members in the residence hall and actively promote the creation of safe, perceived, and inclusive communities,” Sadd said. “I have dreamt of working full-time at the University of Nebraska for a few years now and am honored to have the chance to do it here soon.”

However, Sadd has learned what it truly means to transition from a student staff role to a professional one, and how the two are vastly different from one another.

“I have gained a lot of insight into what students really need from a Community Director as well as what other faculty need from us,” Sadd said. “We hold a unique position due to the fact that we actively live in the residence halls and it gives us a different point of view and relationship with residents.”

Along with being a CD, Sadd was also the Greek Advisor for Delta Kappa Pi.

“I am so honored to have had the opportunity to work closely with them,” Sadd said. “I felt so much more welcome on campus when I started interacting with DKP and am eternally grateful to have had the chance to be a part of their brotherhood.”

Sadd also stated that his time here at Doane, although it was brief, has been very special for him and that he will miss being here.

“Many faculty can understand wanting to work for your alma-mater and how much it means to have the opportunity to do so,” Sadd said. “I am honored to have the change and hope to keep Doane near and dear to my heart as I pursue this dream elsewhere.”
