Men’s Tennis adds loss to record

On Feb. 8, the Tigers Men’s tennis team had their second spring season game at Red Oak, Iowa, against Grand View University, losing 1-6. In doubles play, Junior Jose Purizaca and Sophomore Julio Avila won 7–5 at No. 1. To gain the team point, Grand View defeated the No. 2 doubles team 6-3 and the No. 3 doubles team 6-1.

The singles matches did not go very well for Doane, as Purizaca was the only player who was able to get the victory for the Tigers. Purizaca in singles No. 1 won 6-4, 6-4. The rest of the games were negative results for the team. No. 2 sophomore Elliot Dasell lost in a close match with a tie-break in the third set 5-7, 7-5, 0-1 (7-10). Senior Andre Hartman lost at No. 3, 4-6, 4-6, and sophomore Julio Avila lost 3-6, 3-6, at No. 4 singles. Freshman Tanner Adams could not achieve a win in match No. 5 and freshman Christian Jensen had a tight match in a third set tie-break, 5-7, 7-5, 0-1 (9-11).

Next up for men’s tennis will be on Saturday, Feb. 15, against Ottawa University in Red Oak, Iowa. The Tigers will try to get the first win of the season and find the right path for the rest of the matches.
