Men’s Wrestling wins at GPAC

On Feb. 8 the Men’s team took on Waldorf University, Dakota Wesleyan University and Morningside University at the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Duals in Mitchell, South Dakota where they became the GPAC Champions.

Starting off with their match against Waldorf in the 125 was senior Hunter Bennett who walked away with a victory by a forfeit which brought the Tigers up 6-0. In the 133 was freshman Anthony Harris who also had a win which added six more points to the Tigers score.

In the 141 was junior Devin Avedissian who won by a tech fall, which brought the score to 17-0. Receiving a loss in the 149 was junior Tristen Brown which brought the score to 17-3. Adding six more points to the score was junior Ben Miller and winning by tech fall in the 165 was freshman Vincent Donatelle which brought the score to 28-3.

In the 174 was senior Benjamin Dobler who added four points to the score and in the 184 was senior Tyson Beaupethuy who won by a tech fall. Winning in the 197 was returning senior Bradley Antesberger and the 285 was sophomore Eli Criblez by a forfeit which earned them six points each, which brought the final score to 49-3.

Going into their second dual of the day was against Dakota Wesleyan. Winning by a tech fall in the 125 was freshman Brian Peck and in the 133 was junior Matthew Terrence who added six more points, which brought the score to 11-0. In the 141 was Avedissian, however by decision he only walked away with three points, but winning by a tech fall was senior Nate Lendt.

In the 165 was junior Edward Ramirez, where Dakota Wesleyan won this match by a fall, which brought the score to 25-6. Also losing their match was junior Chase Stieb in the 174, but winning by a forfeit in the 184 was senior Kolton Kammeyer bringing the score up to 31-10.

Winning by a tech fall in the 197 was returning senior Kasten Grape and finishing up for this dual was junior Angelo Franco in the 285, where Dakota Wesleyan added three to their score. The Tigers walked out of their second dual of the day with a score of 36-13.

Going into their last duel of the day was against Morningside, starting off with the 125 was Bennett who won by major decision, which brought the score to 4-0. In the 133 was Terrence who added six points to their score and adding three more points in the 141 was Avedissian by a sudden victory.

Winning by a fall in 149 was Lendt, which brought the score up to 19-0. In the 157 was Miller who won by decision, which added three points to the Tigers score, however competing in the 165 was junior Cooper Spaulding where Morningside added three points bringing the score to 22-3.

In the 174 was Dobler who won by a major decision which brought the score to 26-3. And winning by forfeits was Beauperthuy in the 184, Antesberger in the 197 and Criblez in the 285, bringing the score to 44-3.

On Feb. 21-22, the Tigers will be traveling to Hastings, Nebraska, to compete in the GPAC Championships.
