One Day, One Doane finds success

Doane University, like any university or college, relies a lot on its donors and grant givers for day-to-day funds, athletics, programs and research. As a way to help secure that critical funding, Doane hosted One Day, One Doane a fundraising event on March 20, to help meet a fundraising goal that unlocked a $75,000 donation goal from the Doane Board of Trustees.

“By participating in ‘One Day. One Doane’ donors contribute to a comprehensive fund that addresses immediate needs and invests in the university’s future. This collective effort ensures that Doane can continue to provide exceptional educational experiences for current and future generations,” Jessica Cole Pulte, director of the Doane Fund, said.

This year’s round of fundraising did not come easy either, as all Doane campuses were closed due to poor weather conditions and major power outages hit most of the state. However, the fact that the university was able to work together and achieve the fundraising goals speaks to the lasting impact Doane has had on people.

“Despite facing unexpected challenges due to severe weather conditions, including power outages, the Doane community demonstrated remarkable resilience during the ‘One Day. One Doane’ fundraising event,” Alumni Outreach & Event Coordinator Natalie Johnson said. “The Doane community’s determination and adaptability were evident as they met and exceeded the 400-donor target. This collective effort underscores the unwavering commitment and unity within the Doane community, reflecting their dedication to the institution’s mission and future, even in the face of adversity.”

The funds secured from both the donors and the Board of Trustees go toward helping student education, providing resources and adding to campus life as well as supporting our faculty and staff. The funds show a commitment from Doane’s past and present to the future.

“Alumni giving is a testament to their belief in the value of their education and experience at Doane University. Their support not only reflects gratitude but also a commitment to paying it forward—ensuring that future students can find their home at Doane and receive the resources they need to become leaders in their communities,” Mike Stehlik, senior marketing and brand strategist for advancement and alumni, said.

Seniors who wish to continue to give to Doane can buy philanthropy cords for Commencement, with the money going to the larger One Day, One Doane fund. Those cords can be purchased at doane.edu/onedoane.
