Last week, Doane Softball (5-3 in conference, 13-14 overall) took on three different teams, dropping two games to Northwestern College, beating Waldorf University twice and splitting against Dordt University.
On March 18, the Softball team played at home against the Northwestern College Red Raiders in two games.
Starting off in the top of the third in game one, the Red-Raiders scored three runs, making the game 0-3. However, in the bottom of the fifth, freshman Lexi Adams scored the first run for the Tigers, making the score 1-3. But in the top of the seventh, the Red Raiders took it home adding three more runs, making the final score 1-6.
Transitioning into the second game of the day, in the top of the fourth, the Red-Raiders added three runs, making the score 0-3. In the bottom of the sixth, senior Grace Dowding, freshman Bri True, junior Jasmine Villegas, freshman Milannie Gonzalez and sophomore Jeryn Allen added one run each to the score, making it 5-3. But the Red-Raiders added three more runs, which brought the final score to 5-6.
Fast forward to March 21-22, the Tigers traveled to Sioux Center, Iowa, to take on Waldorf University and Dordt University both in two games each.
Going into the top of the first inning against Waldorf, senior Anna Prauner scored the first run of the game with junior Faith Molina scoring after. Adding two more runs were True and senior Marisa Marquez, making the score 4-0.
Scoring in the top of the second was Adams, and adding a run each in the top of the third were Marquez, Molina, True, Allen and Villegas, bringing the score to 9-0. But in the bottom of the fifth, Waldorf added one run to the score, making the final score 9-1.
Transitioning into their second game against Waldorf, in the bottom of the first Waldorf added a run to the score, but in the top of the second Villegas scored, making the score 1-1.
However, in the bottom of the second and third, Waldorf added six runs to the score, making it 1-7. But the Tigers weren’t accepting defeat because in the top of the fourth and sixth innings, Adams, Allen, Dowding, Prauner, Marquez, Gonzalez, Villegas, freshman Addison Parson and Molina would be adding 16 runs to the score, making the score 17-7. Finishing off in the bottom of the sixth, Waldorf added one final run to their score, making it 17-8.
Now it was time for the Tigers to take on the Dordt Defenders. Starting off in their first game in the bottom of the first, the Defenders added two runs to the score making it 0-2. But in the top of the third, Dowding scored the Tigers’ first run of the game. However, in the bottom of the third, the Defenders would add one final run to the score, bringing the score to 1-3.
Going into their second game against the Defenders in the top of the first, Gonzalez and Villegas would score, bringing the score to 2-0. But in the bottom of the first and second, the Defenders would add three runs, making the score 2-3.
In the top of the third and fourth, Marquez, Villegas and True would score along with Molina hitting a homer, bringing the score to 6-3. The Defenders would then add a home run in the bottom of the fourth, making the score 6-4.
In the top of the fifth, Adams and Marquez would add two runs with the Defenders also adding two more runs and another home run, making the score 8-7. At the top of the sixth, Gonzalez added another run, with the Defenders also scoring, making the score 9-8. Finishing up the game in the seventh inning, True hit a homer with the Defenders adding one more run to the final score, making it 10-9.
Next up, the Tigers will be back at home taking on the College of Saint Mary on March 26 with games set to start at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Along with that, the Tigers are set to take on Peru State on March 28 at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. along with Morningside University on March 29, at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
