Dance

Last week, the Doane Dance Team made their way over to Ypsilanti, Michigan, to compete in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Nationals, where this is their fifth consecutive time competing.

The Tigers competed alongside eleven other teams where they walked away with a final score of 78.63, which placed them sixth overall. This concludes the Doane Dance Team’s season.

Men’s Golf

Last week, the Men’s Golf team traveled to Bullhead City, Arizona, to compete in a three-round competition called The Battle, which was hosted by Wayland Baptist University. Walking away from the competition, the Tigers had a final score of 958, which placed them 19th out of 20 teams.

The Tigers went through the first round and second round with a score of 797 and finished the third round with a score of 958, which placed them 19th overall.

Tying for 47th was sophomore Jack Millard, who had a final individual score of 234. Sophomore Joshua Wassmer tied for 79th with a score of 240. Freshman Toby Knevett tied for 83rd with a score of 241. Sophomore Julius Kroell tied for 88th with a score of 244. Finishing up for the Tigers was junior Cauy Walters, who tied for 94th with a score of 249.

Next up, the Tigers will be traveling to Manhattan, Kansas, to compete in the Midwest Spring National Invite on April 7-8.

Softball

Last week, the Softball team played four games at home, splitting two against the College of Saint Mary and falling to Morningside twice.

Starting off with game one, Saint Mary would score in the top of the first inning with freshman Milannie Gonzalez tying up the game at the bottom of the first. In the second inning, the Flames would add another run with sophomore Jeryn Allen tying up the game, along with senior Grace Dowding giving them the lead.

In the top of the sixth, the Flames would take the lead adding two more runs, but freshman Bri True hit a homer to left field, along with junior Hannah Pack adding a run. To finish off the game, junior Jasmine Villegas hit a homer also toward left field, bringing the final score to 6-4.

Transitioning into game two, the Flames would start the game scoring on a wild pitch, with the Tigers soon taking the lead after scoring runs from Dowding and Gonzalez. Kayla Meyer hit a home run toward left field, driving in Marisa Marquez and Villegas.

In the top of the next three innings, the Flames would receive two home runs along with two runs, which would tie up the game. But, taking back the lead was Villegas after hitting a home run also toward left field.

However, the Tigers didn’t have the lead for long because the Flames would then add three more runs and Dowding would add another run. But the Flames would add one final run to the score, making the final score 7-9.

Fast forward to the Tigers next game, this time against the Morningside Mustangs. The scoring in game one started with junior Faith McDonald hitting a home run toward left center along with senior Anna Prauner scoring.

In the top of the sixth, the Mustangs would tie up the game along with doubling their score in the top of the 11th. To finish the game, sophomore Makinley Thomas would score off of an error, bringing the final score to 3-4.

Transitioning into game two, the Mustangs started the game with a homer, but in the bottom of the second Allen would tie up the game. However, in the sixth and seventh innings the Mustangs would add four more runs, making the final score 5-1.

Next up, the Tigers will be facing Bellevue University at home on April 2, with the game starting at 4 p.m. The Tigers will also take on Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, South Dakota, on April 5.

Baseball

Over the weekend, the Baseball team took on Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, Iowa, and Dakota Wesleyan University at home, where they were defeated in all four games.

Starting game one against Briar Cliff, senior Logan Amick scored in the top of the first with the Chargers tying up the game in the bottom of the first. In the second inning, junior Jordan Bond and junior Johnny Vulcano added two more runs, but the Changers added 12 runs during the second and third innings.

In the top of the fourth, junior Sam Kwapnioski had hit a homerun along with Amick scoring, but the Chargers added two more runs. Finishing up game one was senior Gerald Nix, who had hit a homerun, along with sophomore Max Harris and Kwapniosk adding the final runs, bringing the final score to 9-15.

In game two, Kwapniosk scored along with J. Vulcano, but in the second, third, fourth and seventh inning, the Chargers would add 10 runs. In an attempt to catch up, Kwapniosk scored, but finishing off in the bottom of the eighth the Chargers added three more runs, bringing the final score to 3-13.

Transitioning into their first game against Dakota Wesleyan, Kwapniosk had hit a homerun in the top of the first inning, but in the bottom of the second, Dakota Wesleyan added four runs. Going into the top of the fourth, Harris, junior Misael Cantu and J. Vulacno scored, tying up the game.

In the bottom of the fourth however Dakota Wesleyan added a homerun along with a run, bringing them back into the lead. But, J. Vulcano along with freshman Thaden Wewel tied up the game once again and this time took the lead after Amick scored in the top of the eighth.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough as Dakota Wesleyan added two more runs to their score, bringing the final score to 7-8.

Going into their last game, in the bottom of the first Dakota Wesleyan added five runs, with J. Vulcano hit a homerun along with senior Aaron Vulcano and returning senior Justin Nevells adding a run each in the top of the second. In the bottom of the second, Dakota Wesleyan added another run.

In the top of the fourth, J. Vulcano and Harris would add two runs along with Kwapniosk hitting a homerun, tying the game up once again. However in the bottom of the fifth and sixth, Dakota Wesleyan added nine more runs, with Cantu scoring in the top of the seventh, bringing the final score to 7-15.

Next up, the Tigers will be back at home taking on Dordt University on April 4, and Morningside University on April 5, games on both days are set for 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
