Shuttle service helps Doane students get from A to B

Doane University’s Division of Community and Government Relations (CGR) continues to make life easier for students through its Shuttle Service Program, a free and convenient way to explore nearby cities and local attractions.

The service has become a huge help for international students who do not have a car, offering the opportunity to go shopping, explore new places, and participate in activities beyond campus. It provides an important connection between the Doane community and surrounding areas, helping students experience more of Nebraska life. The Shuttle Service was also active throughout October, when students had the chance to visit Lincoln, Crete, and Omaha.

The last trip, on Sunday, Oct. 26, took students to the Nebraska Premium Outlets, a favorite destination for affordable shopping. For those who didn’t know about the program or couldn’t attend, November offers new opportunities to take advantage of this free service.

The upcoming schedule includes Saturday, Nov. 8, for a shopping trip to Lincoln; Sunday, Nov. 16, for a visit to Crete to get to know local establishments and the town better; and Saturday, Nov. 29, for another trip to Omaha’s Premium Outlets.

According to Wendy Huntsmann, Director of the CGR Division, the main purpose of this initiative is “to provide students with no transportation on campus opportunities to visit Lincoln or Omaha for shopping or special trips. We are trying to provide a Crete trip once a month for students to shop at Walmart.” She also explains that “the benefits are for students that don’t have transportation to get the opportunity to get off campus and explore a little.”

Huntsmann reminds students of some practical details: “We have limited funding, so we are only able to provide trips three times a month on the weekends. Students can sign up through our QR code on the flyers around campus and also see dates and areas shuttles will be traveling.”
