Hot Takes; Super Bowl and halftime show

With last week being probably the most eventful week for me, I am glad to say that it is over. But one of my favorite things about last week was Super Bowl Sunday!

Now I have watched probably every single Super Bowl since I was a little kid running around, not having a care in the world. It was one of my favorite things to do with my father. However, this year was vastly different. Not only because I didn’t get to watch the Super Bowl with my father, but also because my team sadly didn’t make it. It was because this was probably the most BORING Super Bowl that I have ever watched.

Not a single touchdown in the whole first half of the game, and quite frankly, the Patriots weren’t really playing the best in my opinion, of course, but neither were the Seahawks. Needless to say, the second that halftime show hit, I was sitting in my seat and didn’t move, didn’t touch my phone, nothing.

Let me just say, after months of having the gut-wrenching fear that something hypothetically could happen to not just me but to my family as well, I realized that I shouldn’t be afraid of the one thing that means the most to me: my true identity.

During the halftime show, there were so many easter eggs about equality, and the fact that this year was the most-watched halftime show in Super Bowl history made it even better. And if you are still mad about the fact that an artist who predominantly spoke Spanish performed, who is an American Citizen, the best thing I am going to say is look, you didn’t die, right?

Moral of the story, if you’re going to dislike everything that is not “American,” then you respectfully need to A) grow up and B) look at what the United States of America stands for, because no one is illegal on stolen land. Along with that friendly reminder, “The only thing more powerful than hate is love,” said by none other than Bad Bunny himself.
