Patrick Casey’s work in the Rall Gallery.

Over the past week, printmaker Patrick Casey showed his artwork in the Rall Gallery from Feb. 4 to Feb. 25, where he explores identity in the digital age through speculative science fiction woodcuts.

In his artist statement, Casey describes imagining a posthuman future shaped by advances in technology, where ideas of intimacy, privacy, life and death are very uncertain. Influenced by printmaking traditions, punk and zine culture and science fiction fandom, his layered prints reference communication systems through flowing wood grain, shifting wavelengths and signal-like imagery.

Casey earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Massachusetts College of Art and Design and his Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Iowa. His work has also been exhibited nationally and internationally, including places like the Galatea Fine Art in Boston, Massachusetts, Vietnam University of Fine Art in Hanoi, Vietnam, Manhattan Graphic Center in New York, New York, and the Transylvania Art Centre in Sfantu Gheorghe, Romania.
