Okay guys, stay with me here. I think 67 is funny, and I love when jokes about it are made. Call me a child, say I have the humor of a middle schooler, I literally do not care. 67 is incredibly special to me, and I’m gonna explain exactly why.
It brings together a community of “those in the know”. When someone says 67 or it’s shown somewhere, somebody always smiles, laughs or does the hand thing (you know what I’m talking about). It’s not even about if the number itself is funny, it runs deeper than that. At least to me. Everyone knows what 67 is. Everyone. And because of the amount of jokes made with it, there is a 100% chance of a reaction upon saying the number. I smile when we have to go to measure 67 in a choir piece, I laugh when my acting teacher just says it, I am completely beyond help.
It has made its way into the “funny numbers” family, which, of course, are 69 and 420, those are the classics. But when adding 9 + 10 you get another one: 21. If you’re math-savvy, you know a thing or two about 80085, and for the music lovers, have you ever heard 1738? Any time I see or hear any of these numbers used, I have a visceral reaction, I get SO excited.
And while I really love to pretend I just love the number, it’s really just a need for community type of thing. The people yearn for community and spaces where everyone can feel as though they’re a part of something or a joke. 67 does this perfectly. 67 connects people. What really grinds my gears is how some people think they’re above 67. Trust me: you’re not. I know you have a different reaction to it than hearing a regular number, and that’s the point. You’re in the 67 community whether you think it’s funny or not, and contrary to all of the Owl Editors (except Kenzie), I’d give 67 a thumbs up every single time.
