The residents of Sheldon Hall finally have a new Community Director, Nadia Lanik. Prior to coming to Doane, Lanik worked at the University of Wisconsin. There they were working as a Hall Director. From there they realized that working in a higher education setting was something they were passionate about.
“I worked closely with my mentor and previous supervisor during the job search process and decided to apply at Doane,” Lanik said. “I loved the mission statement of the department, the campus and it is close to family.”
Although most of the job qualities are similar to their previous one like being within the Student Affairs Department, it being a live-in position and prioritizing resident interactions and community building, it also has its differences.
“This job is different because I have more of a supervisor role and more administrative responsibilities,” Lanik said.
On the contrary, coming into their new job Lanik is still trying to figure out goals that they can hopefully accomplish for the future residences of Sheldon Hall.
“I’ve been focusing on trying to make this transition as smooth as possible, especially coming in mid-year,” Lanik said. “I’m looking forward to supporting my staff and residents as they grow this semester and in future semesters. I also can’t wait to help continue to build upon the amazing work that Doane Housing is doing.”
Walking into the third week of the semester, Lanik believes that they have found their community here at Doane.
“My fellow Community Directors, as well as Brian [Stutz], Emily [Hand], [and] the Student Affairs Division in general have been super supportive and helpful during my transition here,” Lanik said.
