Doane Student Senator Applications are now open for upper-classmen students to enter. Student senators are students who are elected to be in a position where they represent the graduating class that they are a part of.

What this means is that these students have a vote in the Student Congress (StuCo) to help decide the matters within the congress. Within Student Congress, the application is open for students to apply for the position of President, Vice-President and upper-class senators within this spring semester.

“Becoming a Student Congress Senator is an enriching experience that allows students to have a seat at the table during Board of Trustees meetings and when making decisions about allocations, student events and the beloved Stop Day that will be taking place on campus sometime this month,” junior and StuCo Treasurer Lindsey Udell said.

The process to become a Student Congress Senator is simple. Firstly, a student has to apply. Then the student’s name gets added to the ballot as a candidate for the position they applied for. Finally, the people vote, and their vote decides whether or not the student becomes a member of the student congress.

“As students look to apply to be Student Congress Senator, they will find their name on the ballot during our elections that will be coming up shortly. Applications are due on April 10 and voting will occur from April 15 to April 18,” Udell said.

Students who wish to apply for the positions of President, Vice-President and Upper-Class Senator should contact StuCo President and senior Sabrina Renderos at sabrina.renderos@doane.edu, or any interested student can go to a Student Congress meeting which happens every Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Perry Campus Center Board Room.
