Last week, Doane celebrated libraries and their staff by partaking in National Library Week. Activities were planned throughout the week, and little celebrations were held for specific themes to encapsulate their appreciation for those themes.

Starting on Sun., the library had coloring pages and puzzles for people to enjoy.

“This is a nation-wide celebration for libraries of all types. It is a way to share and promote the impact public, school and academic libraries have on communities.” Librarian Cali Biaggi said.

On Monday, there was a banned books read-in, where students could see what books were banned showcased front and center in the library’s front lounge area. The books included were internationally banned and historically nationally banned, such as the Bible.

Tuesday was the library workers’ appreciation day, and for this, the library laid out punch and cookies for everybody to enjoy to celebrate the work that the library staff does.

Wednesday was the trivia contest, where students were subjected to questions presented by the library staff, and some required external research into other books or Doane yearbooks.

“I enjoyed compiling the trivia questions for Wednesday’s game. Some of the questions will probably require folks to look around the physical library space and even check some yearbooks I hope everyone who plays has a good time with that,” Biaggi said.

Thursday was the Mario Kart Tournament in association with the Doane Esports team.

Friday was the Library after-hours event, hosted in conjunction with the Doane Student Programming Board (SPB), where students got to play video and board games, play hide and seek, have snacks and drinks and watch movies.

Doane’s library staff hopes to make the celebration of National Library Week an annual tradition.
