On Oct. 12, both Men’s and Women’s Soccer competed against Dakota Wesleyan University at home, where they both walked away with a win.
Starting with the Women’s team, scoring the first goal of the game was junior McKenna Rathbun in minute 13, which makes this her ninth goal of the season. Going into the second half, the Tigers were putting up a fight; however, junior Celeste Galvan scored the second goal of the game after a penalty kick.
Sophomore Virginia Johnson, who was the goalkeeper for this game, had three saves in the match. Along with that, the Tigers were able to outshoot Dakota Wesleyan: the Tigers had 13 total shots with seven being on the goal, while Dakota Wesleyan had five total shots with three being on the goal.
Switching over to the Men’s team, the Tigers were forced to play the last 31 minutes of the game down a man. Scoring the first goal of the game was senior Hugo Santos in minute 18 after he took the ball away from a Dakota Wesleyan defender. Going into the second half of the game, Dakota Wesleyan’s Neil Ennis got the second goal of the game in minute 46.
Just a couple of minutes later, the Tigers would receive a red card after a foul on the breakaway attempt for Dakota Wesleyan, which left them with a free kick; however, they weren’t able to score, which left the game tied.
In minute 63 senior Ameer Madden would get the next goal for the Tigers after the ball passed three of Dakota Wesleyan’s defenders in the far post. By the end of the game, senior Samuel Montanez had five total saves out of 83 minutes of play, while sophomore Curtis Oberg had no saves in the last seven minutes.
With this, the Tigers had eight total shots with five of them being on the goal, while Dakota Wesleyan had 11 total shots with six of them being on the goal.
Next up for both the Men’s and Women’s teams, they will be back at home competing against Concordia University on Oct. 16, with Women’s starting at 5 p.m. and Men’s starting at 7:15 p.m.
