Reflecting on Homecoming

With homecoming in the rearview mirror, we at the Doane Owl hope everyone, staff, students, alums, families and friends had an exciting and fun time celebrating Doane University. Homecoming only happens once a year and finding an excuse to celebrate something as pivotal as the college you attend is rare. Hundreds of people were brought together across the country over multiple decades to celebrate the academic, athletic and social experiences they shared with peers and to celebrate the connections future generations of students will make.

As we reflect on homecoming, our biggest takeaway is to cherish the connections you make here at Doane because they can last a lifetime. While you only spend a short four years in college if you only get your undergraduate degree, those four years can define the rest of your life.

You can meet friends who will be pivotal in your life, you can find your true calling in life and you can guarantee a better future for those closest to you. Doane like any college, is pivotal for your transformation from a green-horned freshman into a senior ready to take on all challenges.

When homecoming comes around you can see the power that education has on people. Alums come out the woodwork in droves, excited and encouraged by a new generation of students who will hopefully carry on Doanes legacy far into the future.

Every homecoming is a celebration of Doane’s past, present and future. So when homecoming comes around next year, look around campus and see the impacts multiple generations have had on Doane and hopefully you will imagine the impact you will have on Doane.
