On Oct. 18, the Volleyball team traveled to Lincoln to play against Nebraska Wesleyan University, a non-conference opponent. Even though the two rivals hadn’t played since 2015, Doane shook off the rust and defeated the Prairie Wolves in four sets. In addition to surpassing last year’s win total, the victory improved the Tigers’ record against NWU to 65-28 overall. The Game scores were 17-25, 25-20, 27-25, and 25-23. The Tigers were able to play with energy and confidence to turn around after the first set loss and thus win the following three sets in a row, putting games away despite NWU’s attempts to keep the sets close.
Freshman Natalie Wood contributed 14 kills, while Senior Kayden Schumacher topped the Tigers with 16. Sophomore Camdyn Carpenter recorded two ace serves and provided 35 assists. Doane recorded ten ace serves as a team, with Senior Taylor Sluka leading the way with three ace serves.
Senior Grace Zeier collected 25 digs in the evening, marking her third consecutive match with 25 or more. Sluka completed with 12 digs, while Carpenter added 14. Freshman Hilary Hupp had four blocks overall, leading the Tigers to 6.0 team blocks during the game.
On Oct. 19, the Tigers traveled to Sioux City, Iowa, to play Morningside University. The Mustangs defeated the Tigers in straight sets to defend their home court and are currently collecting votes in the most recent national poll. Doane’s winning streak of three games came to an end with the scores of 19-25, 18-25 and 13-25. It was a hard defeat away from home despite the first set remaining competitive. The current general overall record for the Volleyball team is (8-16), while the conference overall is (3-8).
With eight kills apiece, Schumacher and Freshman Kate Roseland were the team leaders. Wood recorded seven kills. The Tigers recorded 25 kills with 24 attack errors for a 0.008 attack percentage, led by Carpenter’s last 17 assists for the game. Carpenter racked up ten digs and Zeier ended with fifteen. Hupp was in on all three of Doane’s 3.0 team blocks.
On Oct. 23, the Tigers will take on Hastings College in conference play at home with the first serve set for 7:30 p.m.
