On Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, the Tigers opened their season in Sioux Center, Iowa, where they went up against four teams, the first being the University of Sioux Falls.
Starting off in the top of the first inning, junior Hannah Pack scored the first run of the game, which brought the score to 1-0. At the end of the second inning, however, the Cougars added four runs, which brought the score to 1-4.
However, freshman Milannie Gonzalez, Ciara Hudson and sophomore Jeryn Allen added five more runs to their score with Gonzalez having three of those runs. This brought the final score to 6-4.
Next up, the Tigers took on Dakota State University, where in the top of the first inning the Trojans gained three runs, but Gonzalez added a run to the Tigers’ score at the bottom of the first.
In the top of the third, the Trojans added another run to their score, but in the bottom of the third, senior Jaiden Papik added another run, making the score 2-5 after three innings.
Adding more runs at the bottom of the fourth were Allen and Adams. In the bottom of the fifth, senior Anna Prauner scored. Finishing up the game was Pack, senior Grace Dowding and sophomore Katelyn Hays, who added three more runs to their score, which brought the final score to 9-5.
Going into Feb. 1, the Tigers’ first game was against York University, where in the bottom of the first inning Hays and Gonzalez scored two runs, making the score 2-0. But in the top of the second, the Cougars added a run, which brought the score to 2-1.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Marquez and Dowding both scored, which brought the final score to 4-1.
Going into their final game of the weekend, they faced Culver-Stockton College, wherein the top of the second inning, Adams scored, bringing the score to 1-0. In the top of the fourth, freshman Bri True struck a homerun, with junior Faith Molina scoring after, which brought the score to 3-0.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Wildcats added two runs to their score, which brought the score to 3-2. But in the top of the sixth, Molina scored the final run of the game, which brought the score to 4-2.
On Feb. 14, the Tigers will be traveling to Kansas City, Kansas, to compete against Sterling College and Oklahoma Panhandle State University.
