On Feb. 1, the Tigers opened their season in Salina, Kansas, where they took on McPherson College and Kansas Wesleyan University.
The Tigers first took on McPherson where they were able to walk away with a final score of 5-4, making this their first win of the season. In the second inning, the first two runs came from seniors Carter Roth and Aaron Vulcano, and finishing up the second inning was junior Sam Kwawpniosk, who had the final run of the second inning.
Going into the fifth inning, sophomore Carson Baker scored another run for the Tigers, bringing the score to 4-0. However in the top of the sixth inning, the Bulldogs gained two runs, but that didn’t stop the Tigers from gaining another run from Kwapniosk, making the score 2-5.
In the top of the seventh inning, the Bulldogs added two more runs to their score, but it wasn’t enough to get past the Tigers.
Going into their next game against Kansas Wesleyan, the Tigers were also able to walk away with a win having a final score of 13-5.
Going into the first inning, the Coyotes gained two runs and added another three in the third inning, which made the score 0-5. However, in the fourth inning, Tigers senior Justin Nevells gave the Tigers their first run in this game. Adding another run was sophomore Dane Kelsey and freshman Brayden Jones, which made the score 3-5. Finishing off the top of the fourth were Baker and junior Logan Amick, who brought the score up to 7-5.
In the fifth inning, Jones, sophomore Max Harris, Vulcano and Kwapniosk added four runs, making the score 12-5. Finishing off the game in the top of the seventh was junior Kelan Polard, who scored the final run of the game.
On Feb. 2 the Tigers had two more games, one against William Penn University and the other against McPherson.
First, the Tigers took on William Penn, where in the second inning the Statesmen gained two runs, making the score 0-2. In the third and fourth innings, Baker and Harris added two runs, which brought the score to 2-2 at the end of the fourth. In the eighth inning, Nevells and Harris added two more runs, which brought the final score to 4-2.
Switching over to their final game of the weekend was against McPherson where in the first inning, Amick gained the first run of the game. However, McPherson also added a run at the bottom of the first, which made the score 1-1. Going into the second, the Bulldogs added another run, which brought the score to 1-2. In the top of the third, the Tigers tied the score after Nevells added another run; however, the Bulldogs added yet another run, which brought the score to 2-3.
At the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings, the Bulldogs added three more runs to their score, which brought the score to 2-6. But in the seventh inning, the Tigers tried bringing their score up after Kwapniosk and Amick gained two more runs. But it wasn’t enough, so the Tigers got their first loss of the season with the final score being 4-6.
On Feb. 14, the Tigers will be traveling to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to compete against Oklahoma City University.
