Women’s Tennis opens in Iowa

On Feb. 8, the Tigers Women’s Tennis team had their first spring season game at Red Oak, Iowa, against Grand View University. The Tigers won their first game 7-0 and are off to the best possible start of the season, with all victories. In doubles, the recruit senior Mariana Espinosa and sophomore Maria Purizaca prevailed 6-1 at the No. 1 match. At No. 2 doubles, freshman Liz Calderon and sophomore Isabella Castillero prevailed 6-2. At No. 3 doubles, junior Grace Schroller and sophomore Kat Johnson prevailed by forfeit.

At No. 1 singles, Purizaca prevailed 6-3, 6-0, while at No. 2 singles, Espinosa prevailed 6-2, 6-1. Schroller and Johnson recorded 6-0, 6-0 shutouts at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively, while Calderon prevailed at No. 3, 6-1, 6-1. Castillero won at No. 6 singles by forfeit.

Next up for the Women’s tennis team will be on Saturday, Feb. 15, against Ottawa University in Red Oak, Iowa. The Tigers will try to continue their winning streak and achieve a great season.
