Baseball sweeps St. Francis

On March 8-9, the Baseball team traveled to Joliet, Illinois, to take on the University of St. Francis.

Going into their first game in the top of the fifth inning, senior Johnny Vulcano scored, which brought the score to 1-0. In the top of the sixth inning, senior Logan Amick, returning senior Justin Nevells and sophomore Gage Ryba added three runs each to the score, bringing the score to 4-0. Scoring the final run of the game was sophomore Taiyo Takahashi, which brought the final score to 5-0.

Transitioning into their second game, in the top of the first, sophomore Brayden Jones hit a homer with senior Carter Roth adding another run, which brought their score to 2-0. But in the bottom of the first, St. Francis tied up the game bringing the score to 2-2.

Going into the top of the second, third and fifth, Takahashi, Amick, sophomore Carson Baker, senior Carter Roth, J. Vulcano, senior Aaron Vulcano, junior Max Harris, senior Kelan Polard, all scored with junior Sam Kwapniosk hitting a homerun, which brought the score to 14-2.

But in the bottom of the fifth, St. Francis added another run, bringing the score to 14-3. However, in the top of the sixth, senior Misael Cantu scored with Kwapniosk scoring off of a wild pitch, along with Ryba adding another run in the top of the seventh making the score 20-3.

Finishing up in the bottom of the seventh, St. Francis added three more runs, which brought the final score to 20-6.

Going into their final game against St. Francis in the top of the first and third inning, Roth, J. Vulcano, Harris, and Kwapniosk scored a run each bringing the score to 4-0. However, in the top of the fourth, St. Francis scored, making the score 4-1. In the top of the fifth, Kwapniosk added another run, but St. Francis also scored making the score 5-2.

In the top of the sixth and seventh inning, Harris and Baker added one run each while Amick added two, along with junior Jordan Bond hitting a homer, which brought the score to 11-2. But St. Francis scored another run, which brought the final score to 11-3.

Next up, the Tigers will be traveling to Fremont, Nebraska, to take on Midland University on March 13. The Tigers will also be taking on Mount Marty University on March 16 at home with the games starting at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
