On March 9, the Tigers Women’s tennis team had their first game of the Spring break trip to Alabama, against Coastal Alabama Community College. The game ended with a huge win by 4-3. Due to the threat of rain and the fact that the game was a friendly, it was decided to play the different individual games in a single set of 8 games.
In doubles, in the No. 1 game senior Mariana Espinosa and sophomore Maria Purizaca lost 4-6. At No. 2 doubles, freshman Liz Calderon and junior Grace Schroller lost 1-6. At No. 3 doubles, sophomore Isabella Castillero and sophomore Kat Johnson won 6-4. Nevertheless, Coastal Alabama Community College will win the double point because they won two out of the three games. However, the team recovered and turned around the negative initial score. At No. 1 singles, Purizaca prevailed 8-1, while at No. 2 singles, Espinosa won 8-4. At No. 3, Calderon won 8-3. At single No. 4 Castillero lost 6-8. In No. 5 Schroller won 8-5 and finally in singles No. 6 Johnson lost 3-8.
Next up for women’s tennis will be on Monday, March 10, against Bethel University at the University of Mobile campus. The women’s Tigers will try to get their second victory in the Alabama trip. It is necessary to warn that there are probabilities and warnings of rain, so it is not totally certain that the game will be played.
