Galante conducts Doane Concert Band.
On Saturday, April 5, the Doane Band had their second annual invitational with guest artist Rossano Galante and two guest high schools, Nebraska City Band and Bellevue West High Wind Ensemble.
All together, they played prepared songs from their own and Galante’s own composed pieces of art, which they shared with the audience during the concert.
Galante said he felt flattered to be invited as a guest conductor for this invitational, especially since it was to conduct his own music.
He said that he enjoys working with students and faculty because it’s also a learning experience for a composer. He added that being in front of an audience is what he loves to do.
“We love to hear our creation coming back to us, so I’m honored and flattered,” Galante said.
During the preparation of the concert, Galante said he felt that the students are very talented and that the rehearsal went so well without too much to fix.
Having all the focus on stage, the students and the directors together made beautiful music.
“And that’s just to be the best that we can all be. There’s no such thing as a perfect performance,” Galante said.
Dr. Andrew Feyes, the director of the Doane band, said he and the students enjoyed working with Galante since working with the person who created the compositions pushes all the pieces together for them to be at their best.
“That’s always our challenge as musicians,” Feyes said. “We always strive to do justice to what the composer did, and to have an excellent composer here on campus giving us that feedback just really empowers us.”
Confidence and excitement were all part of this concert along with the Doane and high school students, alongside Galante.
The concert gave students the opportunity to grow as musicians and demonstrated a commitment to music education in Nebraska.
“I’m very honored to be here, and I’m having a great time, and I feel very lucky,” Galante said.
