On April 2, the Women’s Tennis team played a home conference game against Hastings College. The Tigers achieved an important victory for the GPAC by 6-1.
Starting off in doubles, No. 1 senior Mariana Espinosa and sophomore Maria Purizaca prevailed 6-0. At No. 2 doubles, freshman Liz Calderon and junior Grace Schroller won 6-4. At No. 3 doubles, sophomore Isabella Castillero and sophomore Kat Johnson won 6-4.
In singles, at No. 1 game, Purizaca won 6-0, 6-1, while at No. 2 singles, Espinosa won in the third set 2-6, 6-4, and 6-3. In singles No. 3, Calderon recorded 6-2, 6-0. At No. 4, Castillero won 6-2, 6-2. In single No. 5, Schroller lost in the tie-break 6-4, 5-7, 4-10. Finally, in singles No. 6, Johnson won 6-3, 6-3.
The second home game was against Bethany University, on April 3. The Tigers could continue their winning streak, and achieved a new big win by 5-2.
In doubles No. 1, Espinosa and Purizaca prevailed 6-1. At No. 2 doubles, Calderon and Schroller lost 3-6. At No. 3 doubles, Castillero and Johnson lost 4-6.
In singles, at No. 1 singles, Purizaca won 6-1, 6-0, while at No. 2 singles, Espinosa prevailed 3-6, 6-3, and won in the tie-break (10-8). In singles No. 3, Calderon recorded 6-2, 6-0.
At No. 4, Castillero won 4-6, 6-3, and finally in the tie-break 14-12. In single No. 5, Schroller lost 6-3, 5-7, and 9-11 in the tie-break. In the last game, in singles No. 6 Johnson won 6-0, 6-1.
Finally, the third home game of the week was against Morningside University, on Saturday, April 6. The Tigers could not continue with the victories and lost 3-4.
In doubles No. 1, Espinosa and Purizaca lost 1-6. At No. 2 doubles, Calderon and Schroller lost 3-6. At No. 3 doubles, Castillero and Johnson won 4-6.
In singles, at No. 1 singles, Purizaca lost in the third set 7-5, 5-7, and 3-6, while at No. 2 singles, Espinosa prevailed 6-4, 6-4. In singles No. 3, Calderon recorded 6-3, 6-2. At No. 4, Castillero lost 0-6, 2-6. In single No. 5, Schroller lost 0-6, 3-6. In the last game, in singles No. 6 Johnson won 6-3, 6-2.
The Tigers will play two important Conference games this week. The first one will be an away game in Omaha, Nebraska, against the College of Saint Mary on April 7th at 1:30 p.m. Secondly, the Women’s Team will play a home game against Northwestern University on April 12, at 12 p.m. Currently, the overall score for the team is 9-6.
