Men’s Tennis qualifies for GPAC tourney despite loss

On April 15, the Men’s Tennis team lost their final match of the regular season against Concordia University in an away conference game by a score of 0-7. The Tigers end the regular season with an overall 6-12 record and 1-5 in the conference. The men’s tennis team qualified for the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) tournament thanks to its victory against Hastings College 7-0.

“The boys’ season was a little tougher in terms of results,” Federico Infante, the graduate assistant coach, said. “Even though we did not come out with the results we wanted, we still built a solid foundation coming into next year. Each last one of them have shown a lot of improvement and it is exciting where this is going to go. Now the boys are heading into the GPAC Playoffs as the #6 seeds where they are going to have a lot to prove and show how much better they are getting.”

In doubles play, at No. 1, senior Jose Purizaca and junior Diego Infante won 6-4. In the No. 2 match, sophomore Elliot Dasell and senior Andre Hartman lost 2-6. Finally, in the No. 3 match, sophomore Julio Avila and freshman Christian Jensen lost 0-6.

In singles No. 1, Purizaca lost 3-6, 3-6, and at No. 2, Infante lost 5-7, 1-6. No. 3 singles, Hartman lost 2-6, 3-6. At No. 4, Dassel lost 2-6, 6-3, 1-6. In singles No. 5, Avila lost 1-6, 0-6. Finally, in singles No. 6, freshman Tanner Adams lost 6-7 (5-7 tie-break), 1-6.

Next for the Tigers will be the GPAC tournament, which will start on April 25 and will take place at Morningside University.
