Foodie Series continues with pretzel event

Doane’s Student Programming Board (SPB) hosted its first Foodie Series event of the year on Aug. 26 in Lakeside. The Foodie Series is a campus tradition that encourages students to step out of their dorms, try new foods and enjoy being part of a community.

This first event featured soft pretzels with a variety of dips. Students had the option of making sweet or savory pretzels, with toppings such as caramel, cheese, salt and melted butter. The pretzels could even be warmed in a mini oven.

Many students shared their pretzels with friends while doing homework or chatting together,  creating a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere on campus.

Chef Shack, who provides fun meals and snacks for students, reflected on the event. According to Shack, the goal of the food series is  “educating people on different foods and implementing locally grown ingredients.” Shack added, “Food is a love language. It brings people together.” By coming to events like this, students can understand the many ways food can be used.

SPB has several upcoming events planned for the semester.  Chef Shack shared he is excited for the Champion Wall, a series of eating contests with foods such as hot dogs, wings and pancakes. Winners will have their photos displayed on the wall. Looking ahead to the spring semester, students can also look forward to the return of the popular burger-making contest.
