Students participate in crafts while Das Dat performs in Lakeside.
A week ago, on Tuesday, April 21, Doane’s Student Programming Board (SPB) hosted another one of their Coffee Shop Series Events. This event in particular featured clay crafts, mini canvas painting, bracelet making and a small bedazzling station. This craft experience was paired with a live performance from Das Dat, a R&B/Funk band from Lincoln, Nebraska.
SPB President Celeste Galvan went into more detail about the Coffee Shop Series events, “So we actually do our Coffee Shop Series monthly and the big reason that we do Coffee Shop is so students have something to do, a cool craft, something that they might not get to do in their dorm room and then we also like to support local Nebraska small bands that are trying to get more exposure,” Galvan said.
These artists/bands are picked from a list of those who may have performed in the past, or a lot of people in SPB know small artists in Nebraska, so they listen to a few songs from various bands in meetings to help decide who they’ll bring in and who fits the theme for the craft they’re doing that night.
The Coffee Shop Series has been happening for a couple of years now and is always a popular event for students to participate in. SPB enjoys suggestions from the student body and really likes collaborating with them to help create more enjoyable events. The turnout for this Coffee Shop Series wasn’t a big one, as only a small group of students participated in the crafts and enjoyed the live music. The common consensus from attendees was that they really enjoyed the craft options available and enjoyed singing with the band.
