The Doane men’s tennis team traveled to Omaha, Nebraska, on Friday, April 24, to compete in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Tournament.
In their opening matchup, the Tigers delivered a commanding 7-0 sweep over Mount Marty University. Doane set the tone early in doubles play, with the number two duo of junior Elliot Dassel and freshman Jaime Asiain Banzo securing a perfect 6-0 victory. Freshmen Mats Vervloet and Miles Mollring matched that performance with another 6-0 shutout at the number three doubles spot. Senior Diego Infante and Dassel also earned a win at number one doubles with a score of 5-2.
The momentum continued into singles action, where Doane won across the board. Vervloet led the way at number one singles with a 6-1, 6-2 win. Asiain Banzo earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the number three spot, while Dassel secured a flawless 6-0, 6-0 win at number four. Mollring also dominated his number six matchup, winning 6-1, 6-0. Infante and junior Andre Hartman rounded out the sweep with victories at the number two and five spots, respectively.
Later in the day, the Tigers faced off against Concordia University in the GPAC Semifinal. Doane ultimately fell to the Bulldogs by a score of 4-0.
With the conclusion of the GPAC Tournament, the Tigers have officially wrapped up their tennis season.
