Another big freshman class marks the beginning of a new academic year, acclimating to the new campus with an event-filled student orientation.
Welcome Week was held Aug. 9-15, filled with popular events like Lake Day, Foam Sweet Doane party and culminating in the famous Big Bucks Dine:09 with hundreds of dollars in prizes, along with other get-to-know-each-other activities.
“My favorite experience during Welcome Week was the foam party and field frenzy,” freshman Peyton Fangmeier said. “I am looking forward to meeting more people!”
Besides events, new tigers spent lots of time learning about the campus during Tiger Take-off and wellness sessions, as well as lots of time socializing with other tiger cubs.
“My favorite experience was just meeting new people and interacting with everyone,” freshman Miranda Monninger said. “You’re all there for the same reason and in a new place with new people, so everyone wants to make a friend and branch out of their comfort zone.”
Going into the first week of classes, Club Craze (Sunday, Aug. 16) provided opportunities to get connected with different student organizations. While checking out different clubs, any student could grab a BBQ dinner from the patio and a bingo card that students filled out by visiting each club’s booth
To make their home away from home, the Poster Invasion sale began on Sunday and went into the first day of classes on Monday, Aug. 17. For many students, college is one of their first experiences being away from home and on their own.
“My transition to Doane has been full of excitement and new things,” freshman Angelina Niete Otero said. I admit it’s a little different from home, and I’m still getting used to it, but I know that I can rely on my community to keep me comfortable.”
“The transition to Doane has been amazing for me,” freshman Abby Hudnall said. “I truly felt so welcomed right when I got here. I was very nervous at first, but that didn’t last long. I found a group of friends quickly and am incredibly grateful for that.”
